Pom-pons grow on trees

I was standing on the sidewalk taking a picture of this tree.

"Are you taking a picture of this tree?" said the voice behind me.

"Yes," I said without turning around.

I took more photos of the tree, the shutter release adding the punctuation to my declartion.

"Wasn't sure," the voice said. "Thought maybe you were taking a picture of my house."

I stopped taking pictures of the tree and turned around. The voice belonged to a gray-haired man of slender build, maybe 5-6.

"No," I said. "I'm taking pictures of your neighbor's tree."

"Oh, OK," he said.

I returned to taking photos of the tree. The tree wasn't all that interesting but now I couldn't stop until I was sure the guy had no doubt of what I was doing.

Race for the Cure -- You can help

One of my goals for the year is to run in the Komen Sacramento Race for the Cure on May 8, 2010.

For those of you who didn't follow my RTRider blog, you may not be aware that The Wife is a cancer survivor. In 2008, the wife endured 16 weeks of chemo, then two surgeries, and finally seven weeks of daily radiation therapy. If it were not for the deadly consequences of doing nothing, one could make a reasonable case that for breast cancer, the cure is worse than the disease.

I'm not big on asking people for things, but I'm asking people who follow this blog to consider donating to the cause. Click on the "Impact: Make One" image to make a donation on my page at the Komen Sacramento Race for the Cure website.

The Painter

We take a break from our regularly scheduled flower show to consider The Kid and his painting.

One Azalea, Two; Red fish, Blue fish

I'm unable to add anything to this. It's done. I've posted my photo. Day 137 of 365.

This week will be one, maybe two, photos each day. I need to take a break. Or, more to the point, I need to redirect my time to catching up on stuff I've been neglecting. For instance, I've spent a lot of time this weekend updating my web development business website -- www.jomariworks.com. I have a lot more to do if I'm going to turn that site into something useful.

I've taken enough photos this weekend to get me through the week. The project is, after all, just one photo a day, not four or five.

More Bugs

A bird in our backyard walnut tree enjoyed the sun yesterday.

Meanwhile, this bug was eating the roses in the front.

If it's not aphids, it's . . . Whatever this is.

The Wife wants to buy a family of underfed ladybugs to take care of the aphids. But what will eat this guy? Time to nuke the roses to save them.

A spot of sunshine

For a brief few minutes this afternoon, the sun came out, and I hurried about my yard taking advantage of the light.

We've been battling an aphid infestation of biblical proportions. The Wife won't let me use hazardous wastes on the bushes. But at least she has admitted that her home remedy -- to spray diluted mouth wash on the plants -- doesn't work on an infestation this overwhelming. Right now we're trying one of the "organic" sprays, but when that bottle runs out I'm looking for something with a more powerful kick.

Lizard Art

Before I leave yesterday's lizard, I have these interpretations.

I'm considering the final illustration as the logo for a new company: Lizard Eye Productions.

The Kid just amazes

The Kid was hired by a soccer dad who wanted to get a video of his son playing goalie. The dad is hoping the video will help land his son a spot on some college team. So today, The Kid and I went out to Davis for the game.

At this point I should explain why I tagged along.

The Kid played soccer from age 5 until he was 14. He played competitive soccer from U10 on. For four years we celebrated Thanksgiving in a motel at some tournament, usually in Southern California. We even went to Italy in 2004 for a soccer vacation. (Check out the old site)

And when The Kid decided he had had enough of soccer and quit, I was devastated. Really.

So when The Kid got this job to create a video, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to relive the days when I, too, was a soccer dad.

Here's The Kid's video.

I think this is amazing. Hire The Kid for all of your video needs. Visit jomarifilms.com

And since I'm doing this 365 Days of whatever, here's some stuff I took.

Here's a slideshow of my photos:
