Great Balls of . . .

Back on May 2, I noticed these buds in the front yard. The stocks were a good 2 feet tall. I thought perhaps these were flowers. Silly me.

This afternoon I noticed the center bud had popped open to reveal a giant seed ball.

By late afternoon the half-ball had become a full ball of nearly 4 inches in diameter.

Don't know if I want this weed's zillions of seeds blowing around the neighborhood, but I enjoyed the show.

The Hunter

In search of prey . . .

. . . Cardiel peered down from the heights . . .

. . . and finding a wooden Donkey (not to be confused with the spineless variety in the Capitol), proceeded to bat it about . . .

. . . until it fell. He watched intently for signs of life from wooden Donkey . . .

. . . and then he jumped down.

. . . an inspiration to us all.

Color Correction and Cats

I took the photo of this flower on my deck and then looked at it on the computer. I had to go back out to the deck and pick a flower in order to attempt to "fix" what the camera had done to the color.

This is too red . . .

. . . and this too pink. I just couldn't find the right combination of filters and level adjustments that would re-create the flower. It was all very frustrating.

And that is why I felt compelled to toss in something guaranteed to succeed: A Cat.

And, better yet, a closeup of the cat's green eyes.

Satsuma Oranges In The Making

The Satsuma Mandarin orange tree in the back yard is in bloom.

I've been experimenting with manually setting the exposure on the camera. In this case, I wanted to expose for the sun-lit white petals rather than the surrounding trees.

I could have created a similar effect with Photoshop, but this is much better since it provides detail in the white petals that would have been washed out in a standard exposure.

But, of course, I still felt compelled to do a little before . . .

. . . and after Photoshopping.

Save 2nd Base

Ran in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure this morning. Next year I'll buy the timing strip. Even though I was near the front of the untimed run / walk start, I still had crowds of strollers and walkers to pass before I could start running.

Don't know my time but it was faster than my daily jog. When I finished the race I called The Wife, who was walking with co-workers. We met up in front of Cal-Expo and I walked the last mile and a half with her. Teams and some individuals carried signs. I loved the message of one woman's sign: "Save 2nd Base."

As of this moment, I've raised $165. I'd love to get to my $300 goal. Anyone interested in helping out can click on any of the before and after photos below.

Football Sunday

A family friend plays soccer in a local women's league. They were playing today near our home and so I went out took some photos and tried my hand with some "painting."

Later in the day I went with The Kid to another soccer game featuring goalie Evan Drake. The Kid is working on another video for the goalie's father.

Now I'm stuck in Rocklin at a Starbucks while I wait for The Kid to find "landscape" he can sketch for his oil painting class. I'll probably be for a couple of hours at least.

The ordinary

At 10 minutes to midnight I threw these up to see if any could fly.

Sadly, not.

Just ordinary.
